Intro to Ballroom
COUSE DESCRIPTION
Created by Movement Specialist Nicole Byrne

Dance at any age increases blood flow, mental health, and social interaction. Join this fun, relaxed, easy-to-follow class and learn a variety of ballroom dances.

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to stimulate a variety of levels, interests, and abilities. At a comfortable pace, we learn basic patterns and more from over 13 dances including swing, latin, and ballroom. A great way to get in shape, show off your skills, and meet new people!

TIME COMMITMENT: 1 hour a week

CONTRACT HOURS: $35 per month or $10 drop-in

INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD: Demonstration/Improvisation/TV Media/Live Performance

MAJOR LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The student will:

1. Develop understanding of basic ballroom technique, posture, and etiquette.

2. Build body awareness, self-expression, self-confidence, and performance quality.

3. Increase flexibility, musicality, and expressive capacities.

5. Proficiently partner and follow basic steps and more in 13 dances.

Latin: Paso Doble, Bolero, Salsa/mambo, Samba, Cha-cha, Rumba, Merengue, Bachata

Swing: Single-time swing (hustle), Triple-time swing (East Coast Swing), West Coast Swing
o
Ballroom: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Vienese Waltz

What are your goals for the participants?
To increase body awareness, coordination, stimulate senses, spark creativity, and build self-confidence. Exhibit comprehension of a variety of dance styles and rhythms. Demonstrate general physical skills such as: strength and control, endurance, balance, timing, sense of body in space, and efficient locomotion.

What specific skills will participants learn?
Body awareness, physical expression, and musicality.
Anyone of any level or physical ability can reap the infinite physical and mental benefits of dance.

What kind of facility do you need?
A clean studio with smooth floor, preferably a sprung floor. Mirrors are not necessary.

How many participants could you instruct and still maintain a quality program with an enjoyable atmosphere?
25 students is the maximum for this course. Any more people and the movement is restricted.
